| UPTON WELCOMES NEW HOUSE OF WATERFORD CRYSTAL AS MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTION |
|
Labour Party Spokesperson on Tourism, Culture and Sport, Mary Upton TD has welcomed the opening of the new House of Waterford Crystal visitor centre in Waterford City Centre as a major tourism boost for all of the South-East.
“The opening of the House of Waterford Crystal in its new home in Waterford City centre keeps this iconic brand alive in the city. As well as providing visitors with a unique experience of the production of crystal pieces, it will also create 80 very welcome jobs in Waterford. “All the parties involved in this project deserve praise for creating such a magnificent centre and the speed with which it has opened so soon after the closure of the Kilbarry Plant last year. The Waterford Crystal brand has always been a magnet for tourists to the City and region and this new centre will mark a new beginning for tourism in the South-East. “This visitor centre will prove to be a central attraction of the historic Viking Triangle area of the city. The can do attitude of Waterford City Council and all involved in this project should be an example to the Government and others on how to respond to adversity.”
